The brief was a feeling, not a program: how do you design rest as a physical space? for a place with diverse people but a single cultural core, in a market where the good spaces were expensive, exclusive, or quietly unwelcoming to everyday people. The answer was radical in a very undramatic way. Nothing was fixed. Everything moved.

We found a closed fried chicken unit in a commercial plaza and kept almost all of it. The space was built to change with the seasons and with the people in it. Becoming a bookshop was an anchor to the spot, not the point of it.
